The Marshall Bass Reeves Statue: A Tribute to a Legendary Lawman's Legacy

The Marshall Bass Reeves Statue in Muskogee, Oklahoma recognizes the legendary lawman who served as one of the first African American deputy U.S. marshals west of the Mississippi River in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Reeves is known for his remarkable career in law enforcement, during which he arrested over 3,000 criminals and brought them to justice.

The statue, unveiled in 2025, was created by sculptor Joel Randell and depicts Bass Reeves striding on patrol in his later years as a Muskogee police officer. Standing eight feet tall, the bronze figure captures Reeves’ determination and strength, honoring his legacy as both a U.S. Deputy Marshal and a local lawman.
